What is your current AYPO ensemble?

AYP

What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?

AYP in the 2022-2023 season.

Your advice for young musicians?

Find what motivates you in your music making. Find music that interests you, and ways to stay active in the music community, and love what you do! If you find that spark and help it to grow, your potential is literally limitless.

What college/university do you plan on attending this fall?

James Madison University, Music Performance and Psychology.

A favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?

Many of my favorite experiences are when we are all reading music for the first time together, and how even if we are all off the rails and in a bunch of different places in the music, we still work to play as an ensemble, and then we will pause, reset, and start again as one group. It was really fun getting to play through new music with the AYP at the start of every concert cycle!

What do you hope to do after graduation or your more long-term goals?

After high school I hope to dive into my passion for music in college and grow both as a performer and a person, and eventually be able to be a member of renowned ensembles, and make a living for myself through various musical outlets.

What musician, conductor, or orchestra inspires you and why?

Katherine Needleman is an oboist who inspires me quite a bit, as she is both an extraordinary musician and activist for equality in the music world. She has such a strong and confident way of playing while also being aware of musicality, and her playing has a beautiful flow as a result. She is also an excellent teacher and has amazing advice about oboe, music, and life in general!

Any additional memories or thoughts you would like to share?

Thank you so much to Dr. Dixon and all of our sectional coaches for making my experience in this program truly wonderful, and a great way to close out my senior year! I know that the AYP has positively shaped my musicianship and relationships with fellow musicians, and I will never forget the things I have learned here or the memories that I have gained.
